APPETITE FOR LIFE GUIDELINES
School meals can make an important contribution to the diets of children and young people. Consuming a more nutritious diet during the school day and developing the skills necessary to support healthy eating in the wider environment are critical in helping to reduce diet related health problems like heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
Appetite for Life is part of a broader agenda on food and fitness for children and young people which is set out in the Welsh Government’s ‘Food and Fitness Implementation Plan’.
The ‘Appetite for Life Action Plan’ was developed through a consultation exercise with children and young people, detailed discussions with the Local Authority Catering Association and from lessons learned from other parts of the UK.
‘Appetite for Life’ sets out the strategic direction and actions required to improve the nutritional standards of food and drink served in schools across Wales.
All this information is available to parents and pupils through all of our school parents evenings, along with tasters of the new recipes that we plan to include in our menus over the coming year. Please do come along and sample them for yourselves and ask any questions you may have to our catering staff and our newly appointed Nutrition Manager, Libby McIntosh.
